Dr. Athanasios Argyriou is a Researcher at the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (ECoE). He was granted his PhD from the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom, in 2012. His research focuses on Earth Observation (EO) and geoinformatics applications (GIS / Remote Sensing / Geophysics) on natural hazard assessment, geomorphometrics, land use and land cover changes, urban sprawl, monitoring of endangered Culture Heritage (CH) sites from natural and anthropogenic hazards, preservation of Cultural Heritage (CH) with mitigation and adaptation strategies, historical mapping and archaeological landscape. He has 24 publications in peer reviewed scientific journals and international conferences. He has participated in various international and domestic projects with his main interests focusing on: (a) earth and environmental sciences; b) providing geo-information solutions in environmental sciences, disaster risk reduction from natural hazards, exploration of mineral resources, Culture Heritage (CH) plan protection management with mitigation and adaptation strategies; and (c) the application of geophysical prospections for geological and archaeological purposes.
