Biography

Marcela Szalanska is a heritage protection specialist with experience in cultural heritage preservation and management. She is currently part of the Eratosthenes Cultural Heritage Cluster. As Digital Heritage Coordinator for the Maritime Asia Heritage Survey at Kyoto University’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies, she contributed to the digital preservation of endangered cultural heritage in Southeast Asia and the Maldives. In the UK, she worked as a Geomatics Officer on a major infrastructure project involving sites from various historical periods. She holds an MA in Archaeological Heritage Management from Leiden University, an MLitt in Cultural Property Protection from Newcastle University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Remote Sensing from the Military University of Technology. Her research interests focus on the protection of cultural property through digital preservation, as well as humanitarian approaches and legal frameworks. Through her work, she aims to foster resilient societies and promote a sustainable future.
