Maria Cristina Salvi is currently serving at the Cultural Heritage Department at Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence, focusing on the protection of Cultural Heritage from human and environmental threats through remote sensing. She holds a PhD in Sciences and Technologies for Archaeology, where she used satellite images and aerial photos to individualize buried remains of two archaeological sites and reconstruct the history of the sites. Before, she specialized through a second level Master in Geotechnologies for Archaeology. In the thesis she used photogrammetry and GIS to reconstruct the site of Gombore II OAM (Ethiopia). Prior to this, she obtained a MA in classical archaeology. In the thesis she reconstructed, through a database, the synchronic and diachronic evolution of the domus in the Ancient Rome. After completing her PhD, she worked on a European project dealing with remote sensing and cultural heritage protection from human and environmental threats. She later worked as post-doctoral researcher on an ESA funded project focused on developing an AI able to automatically detect looting pits through satellite images.
