Dr. Maria Prodromou is a Researcher C at the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence, in the Department of Resilient Society. She received her BSc in Surveying Engineering and Geomatics from the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and continued with an MSc in Geoinformatics and Geospatial Technologies. During her BSc, she studied the detection of underground structures using field spectroscopy for defence and security, while her MSc dissertation focused on characterizing aerosol optical properties using LiDAR. She recently completed her PhD in Post-fire Management in Mediterranean Ecosystems using Earth Observation at CUT. In the summer of 2016, she completed a practical training at Marathon Data Systems in Athens, attending a series of seminars on ArcGIS software. Following this, she worked as a land surveyor at the Department of Lands and Survey for 8 months. Since November 2017, she has been a research assistant at CUT, actively contributing to various research programs. Her research focuses on satellite remote sensing, Spectro radiometry, GIS, and geoinformatics for environmental applications, with particular emphasis on forest monitoring, post-fire regeneration dynamics, and restoration assessment using satellite image time-series analysis. She has contributed to multiple international research projects funded by INTERREG, ESA-PECS, the European Union, and H2020, and has participated in numerous dissemination activities, such as giving presentations in Primary and High Schools as well as to governmental authorities to promote space technology, including the Copernicus Space program and Sentinel Mission. She is also a teaching assistant at the CUT for the course “Remote Sensing I”.
