Defence and Security Research and Innovation Conference 21 and 22 May

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence participated in the successful Conference organised by The Ministry of Defence, a Defence and Security Research and Innovation Conference, which took place at the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) on 21 and 22 May.

The Conference presented the Ministry’s objectives in research and innovation, the technological areas of interest and its initiatives in national and European research and development programmes. Representatives of the Cypriot defence research and innovation ecosystem were also allowed to present their capabilities, and an update on the European Defence Fund and the process of participation and support from the Ministry of Defence was provided.

Dr. George Melillos delivered an insightful presentation about the mission and vision of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence and also highlighted the centre’s latest achievements. Additionally, Mr. Nicos Christoforou presented the installation of the EO Satellite Data Acquisition Station (DAS). DAS enables the direct receipt of data from EO satellite missions within the receiving cone of the station.

The Conference was attended by the Chairman of the Defense Committee of the House of Representatives, the Chief of Staff of the National Guard (GNEF), the Director General of the Ministry of Defense, and the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology, the Director General of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RTI), the Secretary General of the KEBE, the Director of Industry and Technology of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry and representatives of other Ministries. More than 120 representatives of academic institutions, research centres, and companies in the Cypriot research and innovation ecosystem also participated.
