A new milestone for the ERATOSTHENES Cultural Heritage cluster and for the cultural heritage of Limassol

The ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence has initiated a new project with the Limassol Tourism Board to create digital products for the archaeological site of Kourion. This is a Tourism Board initiative, supported by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.

The agreement was signed by Mr Andreas Tsouloftas, President of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Limassol Tourism Board, and Prof. Diofantos Hadjimitsis, Managing Director of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, in the presence of Dr Dante Abate, Dr Konstantinos Roussos, Dr Mahmoud Mardini, Ms christina kanellaki and Ms Natalie Savva.

Using 3D documentation, reconstruction and artificial intelligence, the project will bring to life elements of two of Kourion’s landmark monuments, the Ancient Theatre and the Stadium. It will show them as they once stood and recreate scenes from their past, such as athletic games at the ancient Stadium. The outputs are designed for use across tourism campaigns, social media, and museum and visitor-centre displays, with the aim of raising the international profile of Kourion and its monuments.

We thank the Limassol Tourism Board for their trust and we also look forward to this collaboration. We also thank the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry for their support throughout.
