Online Seminar: Space for Twin Cities by Dr. Athos Agapiou
On the 10th of December 2020 Dr. Athos Agapiou was hosted by ESA-European Space Agency at the Online Seminar: Space for Twin Cities.The title of his presentation was Cultural heritage: The “missing layer” of the Space Programme. Dr. Agapiou presented the connective layer between the space domain and the cultural heritage protection. He also highlighted the importance of Earth Observation and the Copernicus program on cultural heritage monitoring and protection as well as the sensibilization of a society to a scientific community in order to better exploit the potential of Earth Observation.
Municipalities and local governments, who showed to be key players in the management of the COVID -19 pandemic are facing the unprecedented acceleration towards smart solutions. ESA has already a relevant position in the smart cities ecosystem with a portfolio of activities ongoing or planned in support. With the objective to understand the needs and trends, the synergies and the best practises ESA is launching a digital networking initiative among Municipalities all over the world, having adopted space enabled smart solutions called Space for Twin Cities.
