Italy – Cyprus Maritime Business Forum Limassol, 9 October 2026

The ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence participated in the Italy–Cyprus Maritime Business Forum at the DP World Limassol Terminal, held under the auspices of the Shipping Deputy Ministry. Promoted by the Embassy of Italy in Nicosia, the Forum was organised with the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), KEBE, the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Invest Cyprus, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Cyprus-Italian Business Association and the Italian-Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, with the support of DP World.

ERATOSTHENES congratulates the Embassy of Italy, H.E. Ambassador Cavallari and all co-organisers on an excellent initiative, and looks forward to advancing these partnerships, bringing its strong applied research and services to the maritime field.

Italian Ambassador H.E. Antonella Cavallari described Cyprus and Italy as complementary maritime powers and called for turning that complementarity into concrete projects between companies, ports and port cities. Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis said the Forum reflected the strong ties between the two Mediterranean maritime nations, and pointed to decarbonisation, digitalisation and shifting supply chains as forces reshaping the sector — calling for closer dialogue between policymakers and industry to strengthen the competitiveness, resilience and sustainability of European shipping. In a recorded message, European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis stressed that cleaner shipping and innovation must advance alongside marine environmental protection and stronger ocean observation.

Andreas Andreou attended for the ERATOSTHENES team. The themes across the three sessions — port sustainability, emissions compliance for greener shipping, maritime connectivity and the health of the marine environment — map directly onto ECoE’s strengths in Earth Observation, satellite remote sensing and space technology. Through mature projects, infrastructure and operational services, the Centre is positioned to support maritime domain awareness, vessel and port emissions monitoring, and coastal and marine environmental management.
