Dr Nikoletta Tsiarta is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Resilient Society of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. She holds a BSc in Environmental Science and Technology from the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and an MSc in Freshwater and Marine Biology from the University of Amsterdam, where she specialized in phytoplankton ecology, water quality, and hydrogen peroxide-based eutrophication control. She completed her PhD as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow within the Horizon 2020 NOWELTIES project, conducting research at the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA), Spain, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture of the University of Zagreb, Croatia. Her doctoral research focused on the development of hybrid ozone–ceramic membrane systems for the degradation of micropollutants in wastewater and water reuse applications. Before joining ERATOSTHENES CoE, Dr Tsiarta was a Research Associate at the Open University of Cyprus (2025–2026), contributing to the European Agroecology Partnership project ecoFABULAnds, which promotes agroecological practices and biocircular economy principles through Living Labs and stakeholder engagement. Previously, she served as Senior Researcher on the CYANOTECH project at CUT (2023–2024), where she worked on sustainable cyanobacterial bloom management, nutrient recovery through struvite production, and ozonation technologies for cyanobacteria and cyanotoxin removal. Her research interests include water resources management, environmental monitoring, water treatment technologies, environmental sustainability, stakeholder engagement, and the application of digital and data-driven solutions to environmental challenges. She has participated in numerous European and national research projects and is actively involved in scientific networking and science communication. Dr Tsiarta is a member of the COST Action CYANOACTION (CA23160), where she serves as Science Communication Coordinator and Leader of Working Group 5 (Dissemination).
