George Themistokleous is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Environment. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in forestry (University of Bangor), a master’s degree in soil science (University of Aberdeen), and a PhD in soil physics (University of Nottingham). During his PhD he developed a root phenotyping platform to image and quantify root growth and fine root traits in cereals by using low-cost flatbed scanners and transparent containers (mini-rhizotrons). Since then, he has worked with automated static chambers to quantify greenhouse gas emission factors of various agricultural crops in Cyprus as part of the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan. His research in ERATOSTHENES CoE will be focused on the development and implementation of methods for quantifying Soil Health indicators and assessing soil quality.
