Dr. Giorgos KOTSIAS

Remote Sensing Data Synergy Scientist

Biography

Dr George Kotsias [GK] is a Physicist holding a M.Sc. in Atmospheric Sciences and Environment from the University of Ioannina in Greece and a PhD in Climatology and Meteorology from the same university. His PhD dissertation focused on the objective definition of the Mediterranean seasons and the study of their variability. His main scientific interest is the study of the Mediterranean climate and the changes it experiences during the ongoing climate change. Furthermore, he is involved in the weather forecast and modeling area and has worked on the OFIDIA2 (Operational FIre Danger preventIon plAtform 2) project, funded by the Interreg Greece-Italy Programme. He has 8 publications in international scientific journals (h-index=5, citations 56, excluding self-citation, source: Scopus) and 4 oral/poster presentations at international conferences. Today, GK is employed at the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence in the position of remote sensing data synergy scientist in the Environment and Climate department.
