BACKGROUND:
April 2016 to present
Independent consultant in Earth Observation and Geo-Spatial Information for business strategy/planning, marketing and product/service development. Responsible for Exploitation and Dissemination of the FabSpace 2.0 project funded by EU H2020. Member of ISPRS International Policy Advisory Committee, Advisor to the Board of Director of EASRC- European Association of Remote Sensing Companies. Founder and CEO of GMATICS, start-up focused on innovative applications based on EO, geospatial data and AI.
2002 – 2016 e-GEOS CEO (Telespazio 80%, ASI 20%):
Through a development strategy for application services, in several R&D projects co-funded with EU/ESA, achieved a leading position in Copernicus Services for Land Mapping, Maritime Surveillance, Emergency Mapping; (ii) expanded e-GEOS Matera Space Centre to match the requirements of ESA Sentinels’ core Ground Segment and of Near-Real-Time application services (COSMO-SkyMed, Radarsat).
He coordinated the whole Geo-Information Business of Telespazio Group (e-GEOS, Telespazio, GAF, Telespazio subsidiaries in France, UK, Spain, Brazil, Argentina). Yearly revenues from 20m€ to 100m€ and personnel from 150 to 600 people.
He has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of GAF AG (100% owned by e-GEOS SpA); member of the Board of Directors of: Digital Globe Inc. (from startup to IPO), EarthLab Luxembourg, EARSC-European Association of Remote Sensing Companies, TeRN-Technological District Basilicata Region, SIN SpA, Agrisian ScpA.
1989 – 2001 Eurimage CEO (Telespazio 51%, Astrium 49%):
Commercialization of Landsat, ERS-1/2 and Envisat data through a worldwide Distribution Network of about 150 partners, launching innovative initiatives with ESA for quick availability of satellite data in case of natural disasters (later become EarthWatching) and R&D Club for continuous access to ERS data by R&D Entities at preferential conditions (later become ESA Category 1).
1982 – 1989 (Telespazio):
Commercial Director of the Earth Observation Division for operational data reception, application projects/services and product development contracts.
